Update on RF breakdown study in strong magnetic field 1h 10m
RF breakdown has a negative impact on a RF cavity’s performance, especially with the presence of strong magnetic fields. The MuCool Test Area at Fermilab is the facility that allows us to study the effects of static magnetic field on RF cavity operation. As a part of this research program, we have tested an 805MHz pillbox-like “modular” cavity in strong external magnetic fields. Special design of the cavity allowed for operating the cavity with copper and beryllium flat end walls for the purposes of testing the effect of different materials on breakdown phenomenon. Recent results of beryllium high power runs and surface inspection will be discussed.
