Description
Several network research projects funded by DOE MICS and NSF will provide and
monitor dynamic lightpaths in various ways. The goal of the meeting will be to
examine the networking needs implied by the US LHC experiments' computing
models and examine whether and how these projects meet those needs. Participation
by USCMS and USATLAS will sharpen the focus.

VRVS Reservation at Boat Virtual Room of Transport/Universe community.
VRVS will start at 07:30 the 25 October 2006, and
finish at 18:58 the 25 October 2006
Time Zone: GMT -5 summer (Chicago/CST) Please send your slides to Dantong Yu (dtyu@bnl.gov) and Matt Crawford (crawdad@fnal.gov).

We will use this interval to take note of any gaps or problem areas identified in Tier1-Tier2 networking, concentrating on issues within the US. Campus to campus QOS paths, e2e testing, fault diagnosis, measurements. Interoperation among several network provisioning frameworks and infrastructures. end-to-end network diagnosis and performance monitoring (Les Cottrell) that will be very critical for data transfers.
Discussion - Matt Crawford and Shawn McKee, scribe: Les Cottrell Problem Topics: * Path allocation: o Contributors: OSCARS, Terapaths, BRUW, USN, UL,, VINCI, DRAGON o Users: Lambda station, MonALISA * Monitoring: Diagnosis, pS, MonALISA o Must include network, hosts & application * Problem space: intra-US, extra US, application integration, scheduling deadline and time share * Network resources to pillage & exploit: USLHC, Abilene, ESnet/SDN, GEANT (USN UL GLIF) * Tests, goals. milestones: o max T0->T1 with competing traffic, does it work stably, does it perform, o T1<=>T2 exercises soar with the winners, individually and all together o Need goals of when these demonstration tasks (Exemplars) are completed. Agreed to by April 07, referred to as Network Circuit Challenge (NCC). N.b. ideally this requires the end sites to be at 10Gbps. Not all ATLAS T2 are at 10Gbps so will target rates of 1Gbps, 3Gbps and 8Gbps. The main emphasis is for T2 (not T0->T1). Need to identify people to lead this effort, by default it is Shawn McKee & Matt Crawford. * Craig proposed that Shawn Mckee (USATLAS) and Matt Crawford (USCMS) will assemble a plan, setup task, scope and date for Tier 1<=> Tiet 2 network circuit challenges. Matt will collect the project inventory from Brian Tierney.

Understand the needed research to integrate and exploit the "new architecture"
of ESnet & I2 and US LHCnet which provide circuit-like primitives for trasport of
      scientific data.

How can network researchers help the end-to-end system performance?

What is the plan to test and deploy the network research accomplishments into
      the corresponding network domain?

Where are the optimal interface points between dynamically provisioned
network paths and data storage and management?
