The venue for the 2018 Low Energy Community Meeting is the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory / Facility for Rare Isotope Beams on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI USA. Below you will find more information regarding air travel to the area, ground travel once you're there, and lodging information.

Air Travel
East Lansing is served by several major airports:

Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport can be found at http://www.flylansing.com

  1. Taxi cabs are usually available upon arrival and there is a direct line inside the baggage claim to call for a taxi. It is about 10.5 miles from the airport to MSU campus.
  2. Rental cars can be obtained at a discounted rate at either of the following airport locations.  Please email NuclearStructure2018@frib.msu.edu for the appropriate contract numbers
     

Detroit Metro Airport can be found at http://www.metroairport.com

  1. Michigan Flyer is an economical way to travel the 90 miles from the airport. The fare for the Michigan Flyer is about $35 USD. Reservations for the Michigan Flyer can be made here: http://www.michiganflyer.com/.
  2. Rental cars can be obtained at a discounted rate at either of the following airport locations using the appropriate contract numbers:

Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids can be found at http://www.grr.org

  1. Taxi cabs are always available upon arrival. You can get a traditional taxi right outside the arrival terminals. Luxury sedan transportation can be schedule prior to your arrival by calling Metro Cab at +1 (616) 827-6500. It is about 65 miles from the airport to MSU campus.
  2. Rental cars can be obtained at a discounted rate at either of the following airport locations using the appropriate contract numbers:

Bishop International Airport in Flint can be found at http://www.bishopairport.org

  1.  A taxi cab can be reserved prior to your arrival by calling International Cab at +1 (810) 691-6396. It is about 45 miles from the airport to MSU campus.

Lodging

Visiting Scholar Rooms
40 single rooms are available on campus at a rate of $46/night + taxes.  
Each room shares a bathroom with one other room, similar to a dorm room. Therefore, these rooms are probably most desirable for students, although anyone can book a room.

Hotels
There are a number of area hotels offered at reduced rates. When making your reservation, call the hotel and identify yourself as being eligible for the MSU FRIB reduced rate.

  • Candlewood Suites (3545 Forest Road, Lansing, 517-351-8181) offers visitors the special rate of $75 for Studio Suites.
  • Hyatt Place  (2401 Showtime Dr., Lansing, 517.679.7600) offers a reduced rate of $100/Night. Price includes hot breakfast, WiFi, prearranged shuttle to airport and/or campus, Starbucks on site, walking distance to many restaurants and retail stores.
  • Kellogg Center (55 S. Harrison Road, East Lansing, 800-875-5090) offers our users and visitors the special rate of $100 per room, plus a $5 nightly amenities fee. The amenities fee includes covered parking, airport shuttles, local and long distance calls, wireless internet, and a fitness center. Kellogg will provide transportation between the hotel and NSCL or Capitol City Airport, if arrangements are made in advance. The Kellogg Center is located on campus and is within walking distance of the laboratory.
  • Marriott East Lansing (300 M.A.C. Avenue, East Lansing, 517-337-4440) offers our guests Concierge-level rooms with breakfast at $159 per night with the FRIB rate. This hotel also provides a shuttle to the airport and campus and is located at the pickup/drop-off location of the Michigan Flyer. This hotel is within walking distance of campus, many restaurants, and retail stores
  • Quality Inn (3121 East Grand River, Lansing, 517-351-1440) offers our users and visitors a special rate of $89 per room using the FRIB rate. This rate includes a full hot breakfast, high speed internet access, and pre-arranged airport and local shuttle service. This hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants and retail stores. Quality Inn also offers a shuttle the campus and the laboratory.
  • Radisson (111 N. Grand Avenue, Lansing, MI (800)333-3333) offers laboratory users and visitors the special rate of $100/night with the FRIB rate. This hotel is connected to the Lansing Convention Center and is within walking distance of downtown Lansing and the Lansing City Market. Radisson in the Capitol is also a stop on the CATA Route 1 bus line.
  • Residence Inn East Lansing (2841 Hannah Blvd., East Lansing, (517) 657-2875, USA   ~1.8 mi.) offers users and visitors the special rate of $103/night with the FRIB rate. The FRIB rate is based upon availability.  If it’s not available, you are guaranteed the regular MSU rates. Price includes complimentary full hot breakfast, fitness, internet, coffee, business center, parking, evening mixer with hors d’oeuvres, beer & wine Mon-Wed, pool, grocery shopping service, electric car charging station.
  • Staybridge Suites (3553 Meridian Crossings Drive, Okemos, 517-347-3044) offers users and visitors a Studio Room for  1-6 nights at $96/night and 7-14 nights $89/night. The hotel offers free hot breakfast, indoor pool and gym, evening socials with hot meal Tues-Thurs, and laundry facilities.
