Andrea Signori - Transverse momentum distributions: predictive power and impact on HEP

Transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) allow one to map the hadronic structure in a three-dimensional momentum space. They encode all the possible spin and momentum correlations between a hadron and its elementary constituents. After defining the TMDs and presenting some of the scattering processes in which they emerge from factorization theorems, I will address their predictive power as a function of the kinematics. In particular, I will show that the flavor structure of TMDs can have an impact on the determination of the W boson mass at the LHC, providing a new interesting connection between hadronic physics and high-energy physics.
