Kevin Kelly - Fermilab - New Searches for Dark Matter in Liquid Argon

US/Central
Room E 188 (Building 362)

Description
Current and future neutrino experiments are utilizing liquid argon for neutrino detection for a wide variety of reasons. In this talk, I will discuss the possibilities of using current and upcoming experiments to search for new physics. First, I will discuss the possibility of producing dark matter in the proton beams of neutrino experiments and detecting it via striking trident-like interactions in the liquid argon. Then, I will discuss scenarios in which dark matter interacts only with neutrinos, leading to interactions in detectors with large amounts of missing transverse momentum. I will show how the upcoming DUNE experiment will be sensitive to interesting regions of this model's parameter space and can potentially reach regions of thermal, relic dark matter.
