Minutes of Jan 6 2020 ArgonCube2x2 Installation Meeting

·      Attendee: Jim, Angela, John, Andy, Howard, Gary, Steve, Min Jeong and Ting

·  News:

  • There is a list of personnel with permit to access MINOS hall and MSB. The list includes people with long term permit and one time only permit
  • We will update the list regularly and communicate to MSB for keys.
  • Please send Ting and Steve names for MINOS access ahead of time preferably at least couple of days in advance

·  Status of action task list:

  • Steve to approve HA for magnetic cold removal
  • Steve, Howard and Clarence to write HA for electronics removal
  • Next week we start strongbacks inspection by Marcel Borcean's people from FESS
    • John's crew to move the MINERVA and MINOS strongbacks to MSB early next week
    • Jim and Angela to schedule the inspection which likely to be Tuesday Jan 14
    • Andy also wants to participate the inspection as part of the safety review required by neutrino division
  • We need more spaces in MSB for the inspection work  -- Steve to make sure the MSB cleanup by end of this week
  • The man-basket attached to the back of the MINOS steel moving cart needs to be inspected. The floor of the basket potentially needs to be replaced
  • We still need to install whiteboard at the NEXUS/SENSI tent entry
  • Gary and Min Jeong showed addition to the ArgonCube2x2 detector layout
    • The support rail sections are shortened for both upstream and downstream MINERVA modules
    • New additions of LAr purification skid and cryostat venting pipe
    • There are discussions on the optimal location of purification skid which is now on top of the access platform.
      • Current location is driven by the desire to shorten the vacuum-jacked pipeline from the skid to the cryostat vessel.
      • It blocks access to downstream Minerva module.
      • We should revisit the issue after Fermilab cryogenic design becomes mature.

·  Decommissioning progress

  • Minerva water target was filled before Christmas
  • This week we start to have full crew available for work in the hall
  • The MINERVA section of ceiling roof was removed
  • Crane was served last week. No more noise. Runs much smooth now
  • Most downstream area got cleaned up. We are in preparation to take the veto steel plate and scintillator plane out probably this week.
  • Veto scintillator to be taken to Lab 8
  • Expect to start to helium target next week.
  • We could start disassembly nuclear targets in the week of Jan 20 and tracker modules last week of January
  • We need the MINERVA strongback ready before end of the month.
  • John or his delegate will send Ting short brief on weekly progress and plan every Friday so he can communicate to other experiments

·  Minerva electronics disassembly startup

  • Jim to arrange to have PMT storage box sent to MINOS hall before end of next week
  • Howard plan to order some small boxes (18" by 18") this week for storing FEBs, cables etc.
    • Steve suggested there are spare wooden boxes in MSB which could be alternative
      • Those boxes are roughly 20" by 20" and 5" deep.
      • They have covers.
      • They are free and available now at MSB
  • We have some discussion on where to store the MINERVA electronics. Steve and Jim propose to store them at downstream end of the MINOS hall
    • Steve and Ting went to the hall after the meeting. The downstream spot looks pretty good.
    • Howard to take a look in the afternoon
  • It looks like we will have a team mixed with technicians and students/postdocs for the electronics disassembly work
    • we expect to begin the disassembly in the week of Jan 20 starting from the 8 nuclear target modules
  • We need couple of training sessions to go over the procedure with technicians and students and postdocs
    • Ting will talk to Linda to see the availability of her technicians for a session late this week. If not, we will do this late next week as Howard is not available early next week
    • We will discuss with Clarence on this too.

·  AOB

  • Jenny Thomas of UCL wants MINOS PMTs back. They are contributions from UK groups.
  • Steve mentioned that MAGIS wants to start work in MSB soon. We should talk to Rob to understand their schedule
  • ICARUS workers may start use MSB bathroom during their LAr filling period in couple of months

·  No meeting on Jan 20 as it is MLK holiday.
