Minutes and Action Tasks of  August 6, 2020 Electronics and Readout Integration Meeting

  • Attendee: Igor, Linda, Min Jeong, Karen, Zelimir, Sasha, Francesco, Geoff, Steve and Ting
  • News and action task status:
    • MINERvA decommissioning is projected to finish in September. We will have people free up to work on ArgonCube electronics and DAQ.
    • Linda sent Dubna group list of fiber-to-copper converters and safety documentation of class 3B laser. Sasha confirmed of receiving them
    • Francesco will collect DC-DC spec sheet and other info to put into DUNE docDB
    • Min Jong clarified with Fermilab safety on access platform egress concern. They agree the middle section of the platform can be excluded from emergency pathway. The width of the platform can stay narrow.  For this, we need to keep both east and west catwalks free of blockage.
    • Ting and Min Jeong are still deciding how much we move the 2x2 layout. This depends on the handrail location on the catwalks.
  • Drift HV system discussion by Igor
    • Igor gave an overview of drift PS, noise filter box and cable. Detail is in his slides on meeting indico
    • The design parameter is for 500V/cm and 1kV/cm field for TPC drift distance of 33cm
      • Running 1KV/cm in MINOS increases demand on cryo cooler. We planed to have 3 of 600W coolers for 2x2. Ting and Min Jeong will examine the possibility to run 1kV/cm
    • Requirement on PS are maximum output of 50KV and 1.5mA in 1kV/cm field running. Current draw estimation is for 4 TPCs.
    • Spellmen SL50 is being looked into as candidate PS. We recommend to purchase one with network capability. -- the option is well worth the extra money
    • The noise filter is resistor based and circuit is to be in a cylinder box filled with oil.  The box needs to be placed close to the the four HV feedthroughs on cryostat flange.
    • The filter box has a diamter of 34cm. Igor is proposing to put the box at center of the cryostat flange in order to use short cables.
      • We will see whether we can fit the box there.
      • There are some suggestions of alternative locations for the filter box like side of the cryosta flange.
      • We will work with the cryogenic group to find a location
    • The cable from PS to the filter is popular type used for LAr TPC  (dielectric DS2134?).
    • There are discussions on the schematics of AC transformer, HV PS, cabling and filters. The concern is the proper grounding return of the HV cables. Linda will take a closer look and send in recommendation.
  • A small rack on access platform
    • It clear we need a small rack as close as possible to the cryostat
    • We discussed two candidate racks: an open rack with 21"W and 24D" size and three height to choose 28"/41"/51",  and a skinny oneswith 15-18" deep
      • The VGA boxes are 6U VME crate. It should fit  nicely with the 24" rack depth.
    • The consensus in the meeting is to use the open rack with 41" height and place it on the upstream end (south) of the access platform
      • We will see whether we can fit it on the west corner between cryostat and handrail
