Description

The fifth session of the Programming Video Journal Club will be Wednesday, October 14, 2020, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

In this session, our talk is from Matt Godbolt, the inventor of Compiler Explorer (https://godbolt.org). Matt Godbolt is one of the few people who have had his name become a verb, as in "Have you tried to godbolt that?". Compiler Explorer is a tool to help analyze (generally small) pieces of code. Many people have used it, but much fewer have found the many useful "hidden features". In his talks, Matt describes some of these features.

Unlike previous session, this week I will not be giving a summary of Matt's talks. Instead, I will demonstrate some of what Matt spoke about, to analyze some example code. We'll be guided in our exploration of the features of Compiler Explorer by whatever question arise as we go. If you have an example of code you'd like to look at, please load it up at godbolt.org, and send me the URL before the session.
