Discussion: flexibility in the Snowmass timeline
Discussion: flexibility in the Snowmass timeline
11:25 - 11:50
Dear Snowmass colleagues, We learned from DOE OHEP that a number of large construction projects, based on the 2014 P5 recommendations, got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, the original P5 timeline (the P5 report by the end of 2022) can be relaxed. This means that we have flexibility in the Snowmass timeline. We can have more time for the Snowmass process, ranging from a few months to a year, and this is for us (the community) to decide. For the latter, the Snowmass Community Summer Study (CSS) could take place in Summer 2022, instead of Summer 2021. Instead of continuous work, we can pause for some months and resume. There might be other alternatives. We are seeking prompt feedback from you on this. If you do, please provide that as soon as you can at https://docs.google.com/document/d/188oo2u8oce1Oh0f6HBzrcgN5Fpi9wps3kMK_rV673tY/edit The decision on the timeline needs to be made by the end of January, 2021 or the very beginning of February, 2021 (due to contract issues on the 2021 CSS at UW Seattle). We plan to discuss this matter with all Frontier conveners on December 14, thus your input by December 13 is extremely helpful. Please note our goal is to make the best outcome of the Snowmass process! Best regards, Young-Kee DPF Chair
