Run 2 nonlinear integrable optics studies at IOTA.
The Integrable Optics Test Accelerator (IOTA) is a research storage ring located at the Fermilab Accelerator Science and Technology facility. Its mission is the study of novel beam manipulation techniques, key of which is integrable optics - a method to suppress collective instabilities and increase beam intensities. IOTA has completed scientific run 2 in the spring of 2020, incorporating many improvements - better lattice alignment, BPM system overhaul, and addition of sextupoles. In this talk I will discuss run 2 results of the two integrable optics experiments - the quasi-integrable Henon-Heiles type system and the fully integrable Danilov-Nagaitsev system. Figures of merit will be compared with theoretical and simulation results, and remaining disagreements highlighted. An extensive error analysis treatment will be presented. Related efforts in machine learning and lattice optimization will also be highlighted.
