Description

This talk will introduce the Dark Energy Survey, which observed approximately 5000 square degrees of sky over six years of observing from 2013 to 2019 with the primary science goal of understanding the accelerating expansion of the Universe. We will briefly outline the four main cosmology probes observed by DES (weak gravitational lensing, supernovae, galaxy clusters, and baryon acoustic oscillations) and highlight some of the many other astronomical questions as close to home as the Solar System that can be answered with this powerful dataset. In addition to enumerating the scope of observations and science goals of the project, we will conclude by showing recently published results of cosmological analysis on the first three years of data collected by DES.
