Upstream DAQ Tech meeting

US/Central

Current sprint

Towards dunedaq-2.10.0

  • TP firmware
    • Tests done with new tag dtp-firmware 1.2.0 (inc axis 32 b support at input/output + ipbus 1.10.0)
    • Phase 2 FLX integration
      • KM has included FIFOs at inputs to CR (required for dtp output)
      • TE added a block at input which splits data between CR and DTP, which reads data into 2 separate FIFOs, to handle separate outputs gracefully. Simulation seems OK. Next add wibulator output for hardware tests.
      • Test phase 2 FLX with dummy pod before slotting in DTP block.
      • Will need new tags for dtp-firmware (1.3.0), and felix-pie (2.0.0)
  • TP Software
    • Old/new TP formats supported + stitching + trigger
    • Work needed to separate FW/SW dependencies + changes to link handler
    • Then benchmark using old/new formats + choose format
  • SNB buffer
    • May push changes after evaluation of SW TP + SNB recording measurements on Cascade Lake

Future plans

  • Timing
    • Hardware : verify ipBus working on MIB in uTCA crate. Then port Timing FW, demonstrate clock distro etc. Goal is working.
    • Software : some work needed to support MIB (target 2.12.0 ?).  RC integration.
      • Action : arrange meeting on RC (Stoyan, Roland, Alessandro, Florian).
  • Readout FW
    • MRs needed for : half-rate links, link scrambling
  • Readout SW
    • RC integration.
    • Need to prepare a new version for CentOS8 (and mainline 5.13)
    • Ethernet readout. dpdk.  Dedicated meeting needed.
  • Trigger primitives
    • Configuration
      • Erdem has made some progress.
      • Lives in shadow
    • WIB2 support for data Rx
      • In progress.
      • Will not require SW update (we think)
      • Standalone release, just adding WIB2 support.
  • Integration status
    • CERN NP : setup hardware for CB-VD, TLU for Timing. CB-HD next.
    • CERN DT-DI lab : testing with Cascade Lake, pushing limits.
    • Bristol : no update, but available for tests.
      • Would be good to setup dual boot system for CentOS8 support, if possible.
    • UPenn : no updates
    • ICEBERG : facility has been on generator for ~week, experiencing brownouts.  Server has rebooted. FLX might be sensitive to this ?

      Firmware (K.M)

      • fw release v1.2.0 tested, updated documentation and tagged
Release Wiki can be found here:
        https://gitlab.cern.ch/dune-daq/readout/dtp-release/-/wikis/v1.2.0-Firmware-Release
      • Added 32baxis FIFO at the end of the CR-if. Testing ongoing.
      • E.M is working on testing the CB along with the Pedestal Block. Aim is to verify the pedestals can be updated by the CB and read out by the Pedestal Block.

      felix-pie

      • Created block to handle intake of link data and then splitting into two sepearate axis32b streams which are fed into individual axis32b fifos for the CR and processing Pod to read out
      • Simulation seems to pass successfully
      • Currently updating wibulator to axis32b fifo
