Tianlai Analysis Teleconference

US/Central
Peter Timbie, Peter Timbie (UW-Madison)

MINUTES

  1. WIYN observing March 7, 8, 9.   Jocelyn has developed a target list.  Greg will circulate Hydra files by email.  John will be out of town during observations but will probably be available by cell.  Peter has sent ORP form to Heidi Schweiker at NOIRlab asking for names of Observer Assistant.
  2. Low-z paper - Olivier  Overleaf link forwarded from Olivier.   Author list is open.  Comments are welcome, color-coded in the text.
  3. Tianlaianalysis listserve seems not to send email to everyone on the list ?  (Greg is not getting the telecon reminder emails, for example.)  Please let Peter know if you are not getting the weekly reminders.
  4. Ground pickup analysis - Albert
    1. this last week focused on time variability of the ground pickup.   Looking at Jan 2018 data, for some baselines it's pretty stable over the 10 days.  Amount in the forward and backward directions is, in general, different.  Some baselines have ~ 50% changes over time (both night-to night and during a night).  If these are gain variations, the forward and backward variations should track each other.  If it's changing ground emission, it's less clear.
    2. Xuelei- why are we looking at these effects?   Albert - goal is to understand and possibly correct for the 'nightly mean' that we remove from the data.  May be a combination of crosstalk and ground pickup.  This effect does not appear to be studied in the interferometry literature.
    3. Can we look at CASA maps we have made of the NCP to check gain stability?
    4. CHIME reports sensitivity to 'ice melt' and rain effects.  Do we have similar sensitivity?
    5. David Kwak has posted in Tianlai wiki a simulation of a single dish when embedded in dish array pointing at NCP.
    6. Haotian Cao has also posted relative permittivity for 'sandy soil' used by CST
  5. Presentations for SAZERAC - will review outlines next meeting for presenters who want feedback
