Spot Robot Presentation This presentation covers work the Robotics Initiative has achieved in the past year in partnership with our Fermilab colleagues and University students. A live demo of the Spot robot showcasing new personal protective equipment and a radiation-mapping payload will conclude the presentation. This All Engineers Retreat presentation is hybrid.

The IERC Building - How Did We Get Here?

Tips and Tricks for LDRDs and Research Proposals During this session, Kavin Ammigan will speak about his DOE Early Career Research Program (ECRP) application experience and provide some tips/advice, from his perspective, for writing such proposals. In addition, Bob Tschirhart will cover the LDRD program. The Fermilab Lab Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program will be described in the context of the DOE LDRD program and the goals of the program implemented at Fermilab. Particular current and past LDRD projects will be discussed as examples for future proposals.

Intro to Fermilab This session is geared towards new engineers at the lab. It will cover an introduction to the EAC, an intro to Fermilab’s HR division, how the EDIA office assists new hires, and an introduction to the Fermilab Young Professionals (FYP) group. This session is hybrid.

Fermilab Mentoring Initiative (Canceled)

Compensation Presentation This presentation will outline the policies, methods, and recent changes that affect Fermilab engineering compensation decisions. A Q&A session will follow the talk. This session will be hybrid.

ACORN Controls Upgrade Presentation In this session, you’ll learn about the ACORN control system upgrade project. The presentation will cover the progress over the past year, updates to personnel on the project, and achievements in Research and Development building toward a conceptual design. The high-level aspirations and motivations of the project will also be presented, focusing on the context of the project within the Accelerator Directorate and the Critical Decision milestones with the DOE. This is a hybrid session.

More Ethical Engineering Disasters This is a continuation of the Ethical Engineering Disasters presentation from the 2022 All Engineers Retreat. Learn about two more engineering failures, the unethical decisions that caused the failures, and why they were so catastrophic. We’ll also discuss ethical engineering at Fermilab. This is a hybrid session.

ESH Session This All Engineers Retreat session includes presentations on FESHCom and various safety subcommittees, the Variance Process and 10CFR851, the WPC Program, and the HPI subcommittee. This is a hybrid session.

Engineering Challenges of MAGIS-100 In this All Engineers Retreat session, learn about the Matter-wave Atomic Gradiometer Interferometric Sensor (MAGIS-100). MAGIS-100 is a quantum sensor which will be installed in the existing 100-meter-deep shaft at the MINOS building. An overview of the engineering challenges associated with building a next-generation atom interferometer in a vertical space will be presented. Presenter: Linda Valerio (MAGIS-100 Project Engineer).
