      Security 10m
      Security Topic of the Month
People who maintain wiki's, Plone, those types of sites, please be careful. Turn off auto-registration. We're in the middle of doing quarterly labwide intense scanning, getting ready for an audit. We appreciate your patience. We are in the process of updating the KCA's. This is being done to do the seamless windows integration. The goal is to have the same KCA software for Linux as well as Windows. We were in the process of updating the KDC's. But we just had to downgrade them all back to the old version. No time frame for when the attempt to update again. We also had to reboot the KDC's, including the master, to put in the time zone patch.

      Totalview Update 5m
The licenses for the old totalview and the new totalview are not compatable and will not run at the same time. We will switch over to the new Totalview on Monday, March 12, 2007. The new version is v8_0_2, it is currently in AFS and kits. Dave plans on having a new, license compatible edition of the old version, available soon. It will be x7_3

      Scientific Linux 10m
Time Zone Change - tzdata Scientific Linux 4.5 - Estimated release date - whenever RedHat releases it, plus a little bit. Sometime in summer. Scientific Linux 5.0 - Estimated release date - RHEL5 might be released mid March. Our goal for S.L. is between one month and two months after RedHat.
The new timzone/daylight savings changes were pushed to the auto yum area for both SLF 3.0.x and SLF 4.x many weeks ago. For SLF 4.x tzdata-2006g-1.EL4, tzdata-2006m-1.EL4, tzdata-2006m-2.EL4, or tzdata-2006m-3.EL4 For SLF 3.0.x tzdata-2006m-2.el3 or tzdata-2006m-3.el3 If you have one of the above rpms of tzdata or one that is newer then you have the timezone change. If you do not have the correct tzdata you can either yum it yum update tzdata or download it via ftp and install manually. You can get it from ftp://linux.fnal.gov/linux/lts4x/i386/sites/Fermi/errata/Fermi/RPMS/ ftp://linux.fnal.gov/linux/lts308/i386/sites/Fermi/errata/Fermi/RPMS/ It does not matter if you are not on 308 or 4x as the rpms are the same for the other 30x's and 4x's. After you have downloaded the rpm you can install it with For SLF 4x rpm -UFvh tzdata-2006m-1.EL4 SLF 30x rpm -UFvh tzdata-2006m-3.el3 Using yum is easier :-) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TO VERIFY ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Use rpm to determine which tzdata you have installed. rpm -q tzdata OR Look at /etc/sysconfig/clock for the ZONE entry and then pass that to "zdump -v <ZONE entry from /etc/sysconfig/clock>" . You need to grep for 2007 as there are many different years shown in the output. EXAMPLE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- [root@snappy2 etc]# more /etc/sysconfig/clock ZONE="America/Chicago" [root@snappy2 etc]# zdump -v America/Chicago | grep 2007 America/Chicago Sun Mar 11 07:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2007 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600 America/Chicago Sun Mar 11 08:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 03:00:00 2007 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000 America/Chicago Sun Nov 4 06:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:59:59 2007 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000 America/Chicago Sun Nov 4 07:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:00:00 2007 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
