Use authentic local data to bring climate awareness and climate action to your classroom!
How can data and models be used to solve problems?
Climate change is a global problem. Using local studies, through place-based NGSS-aligned classroom activities, teachers will explore heat, collect climate data, and discuss mitigation and adaptation strategies to build climate literacy, hopefulness, and, ultimately, community action for their students.
Using the collected data, teachers will learn techniques to interpret, visualize, and analyze large data sets analogous to data extracted from particle accelerators at Fermilab.
These data sets will be used to create models to aid heat island mitigation, track changes to the local climate, and predict heat island risk in a variety of locations.
The models generated will directly support and encourage student climate action.
