Description
Diverse workgroups and authorship teams are quantifiably more innovative and creative than homogenous ones. Thus, researchers who seek diverse collaborations and practice inclusion position themselves to produce better quality work. This interactive workshop will equip science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) researchers with concrete strategies for cultivating inclusion, a skill that is highly valuable but seldom taught. In 60 minutes, I will share evidence of the benefits of diversity to the STEM enterprise and STEM organizations like Argonne. Workshop participants will then analyze empirical research demonstrating the positive effects that working in diverse settings has on the quality and reach of researchers' work. Participants will conclude by devising everyday personal strategies and individual actions that can be taken to prepare themselves to contribute more fully to their research communities. Light refreshments will be served 15 minutes before talk. Please click here to register.
