Robust, scalable, and low cost stationary energy storage is needed to stabilize the electricity grid against the intermittency common to solar and wind-generated power, thus improving grid reliability to enable full utilization of our nation’s expanding renewable resources. An overview of JCESRs grid storage activities will be presented, focusing on the approaches used in identifying and developing candidate materials.
