Tianlai Analysis Teleconference

US/Central

Minutes

  1. Reza is presenting at the FCPPL (France-China Particle Physics Laboratory) workshop on December 14.   Would like to report on FRB work at Tianlai.  Is there a write-up about progress with beamformer? Slides from Fengquan are attached below.

      2. PUMA meeting now scheduled for 1 day,  Weds Dec. 15.   Peter will share link details when available

All times are US EST:

11.00 - 11.15 Review of where we are

11.15 - 12.15 First results from CHIME

12.15 - 12.30 break

12.30 - 13.00 Calibration State of the Art

13.00 - 14.00 Simulations State of the Art

14.00 - 14.45 Decadal / Snowmass strategy and the next steps

3. DSL mission - interested people should email Xuelei about level of participation, etc. in 1-2 weeks.  Proposal is due before new year.

4. RFI measurements at Tianlai - Jixia.    Wide beam antenna (discone?) + amplifier + spectrum analyzer 0 - 1500 MHz.   Similar to original RFI site survey measurements but amp has NF of 3 or 5 dB, rather than original 1 dB.  Feature near 760 MHz is visible but small.  China Mobile 5G technician has reduced power level at Jixia's request.  May reduce it further.   Repeat measurement with longer integration time?

5.  Update on WIYN survey - Albert.   Updated .cdf file posted below.  Extinction in our region is non-negligible.  Typically 1-2 magnitudes.   To get a volume-limited survey we'd need to observe some targets for ~ 4 X longer and even longer for the most attenuated ones.   Before next observing run we should check targets against GAIA catalog to avoid observing stars.  We now have been awarded 3 more nights or dark and grey time:   March 7,8,9.

6. The drone paper has (finally!) been published as a special article in IEEE Antennas and Propagation. It looks really nice!  See below.
