The workshop aims at collecting input to better organize the accelerator community’s effort on polarized positron sources for High Energy Physics colliders. We expect the main product of the workshop to be one (or more) Snowmass contributed papers in this area. As you might know, the contributed papers will inform the Snowmass report (to be finalized by Oct 31st) which is then used by the P5 (a HEPAP subpanel) to define the strategic plan for US HEP research (including the accelerator R&D) in the next 10 years. The US Department of Energy then uses the P5 report to set funding priorities and we all want to make sure that polarized positron area is well represented in this process.

There are various aspects in the field that will be discussed and explored. On one side, we have the
plans for the polarized positron source for the next linear collider. This is a relatively mature and well establish effort which can leverage on several years of preparatory work and has a clear path forward. Still, there are several areas open for R&D and additional contributions from the US community. At the same time, we also want to discuss longer term alternatives enabled by the progress in advanced accelerator technology that could be exploited to improve the performances for future polarized positron sources.

Workshop participants are strongly encouraged to contribute and actively participate to the white papers in preparation for the Snowmass report (deadline March 15th). Importantly, the invited speakers are encouraged to present not only their own work, but to reach out to other experts working in their own area in order to provide content for a coherent and inclusive report that can be used to capture status of the field and develop an actionable research path forward.
