Andy Chappell
Hi Young DUNE,
I’m currently in the fourth year of a postdoc at Warwick, working principally in the far detector reconstruction group, having previously completed my PhD on T2K’s oscillation analysis. I’ve also been recently selected as the Young DUNE representative for the DUNE Education and Outreach Committee.
DUNE’s efforts in producing a Community Agreement to outline the values and expectations of collaboration members is a welcome step in supporting a positive working environment for all members of the collaboration.
Ensuring that the CA yields the accountability required for it to be a success and enable all of us to feel safe and secure at work is an important role for the Case Review Committee. Young DUNE’s representation on this committee will be a key part of achieving this. I would gladly serve on the CRC if elected, and make every effort to fulfill the responsibility of ensuring early career researchers are effectively represented in such important matters, engaging fully and constructively with the review process to ensure that any issues that arise are properly acknowledged and fairly addressed, and further seek to ensure lessons learned as part of these processes are used to refine and strengthen the CA.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Young DUNE!
I am Yifan Chen, currently a PostDoc at SLAC and working on DUNE near detector and its prototypes. Before moving to SLAC one and half years ago, I was a PhD student at the University of Bern, mainly working on MicroBooNE where I also served as a MicroBooNE Young representative.
I am grateful to be considered as a candidate for Young DUNE representative. I appreciate the close communication between Young DUNE and the collaboration leadership. It is a great channel for our voice to be heard. DUNE is a huge international collaboration, and Young DUNE includes students and PostDocs from various countries and institutes. As a Young DUNE representative, I would further gather voices from the wide Young DUNE community, communicate with the leadership and try to improve the overall working condition for Young DUNE.

I joined DUNE as a postdoc in 2016 after completing my Ph.D on T2K. During my time in the field, a number of events have made me distressingly aware of how necessary things like the Community Agreement and CRC are.
In order for the collaboration to function as a pleasant, professional and productive place to work, all collaborators need to understand the rights and responsibilities they have, and have faith that issues will be handled with sensitivity and fairness, by a body capable of taking decisive action.
It is important to me that the CRC operate with the full understanding that complaints are not made lightly, and often take a serious mental and emotional toll on everyone involved. We must recognise that it is not the duty of complainants to reconcile themselves with those they feel have harmed them.
The Community Agreement is an important step forwards, and it meeting its potential depends on this committee applying it effectively. I’m honoured to stand as a candidate to help make that happen.
Thank you for your consideration,
Steve Dennis
Anežka Klustová
Dear Young DUNE,
I am Anežka (she/her), a PhD student at Imperial College London. I have been on DUNE for the past three years working on the near detector gaseous argon R&D and sim/reco. Alongside DUNE, I also measure cross-sections on MINERvA. I am honoured to have been nominated to become a Case Review Committee (CRC) voting member, and I would be happy to serve if elected.
The policies outlined in the Community Agreement (CA) are imperative to create an open, inclusive, and safe collaborative environment. We, as DUNE, can only do great science if all our members feel welcomed and respected. I strongly believe in the CRC’s role in maintaining such an environment and I am passionate about contributing to this goal. I serve as a member of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee of our HEP group at Imperial representing the doctoral students. In the past, I also upheld leading roles of student representative and mentor enabling the communication between the student body and the department to drive change and raise concerns of my peers.
I do not take the critical role of the CRC lightly. The CRC will enforce the accountability procedures for the violations of the CA, and it must do so with care and sensitivity. We must ensure to uphold the CA guidelines to the highest standard as well as understand that each case is unique and learn from it. The trust placed in the CRC especially by us, the Young DUNE members, to handle the perhaps unprecedented situations that may arise is enormous. I have considered the challenges and the responsibilities of this role very seriously, and I believe I can serve CRC effectively to make sure our collaboration prioritises the community well-being and safety. Thank you for your time and consideration.
