Venue
The workshop will take place at the William & Mary Washington Center, in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood east of Downtown and north of The Mall.
The area is accessible via bus and Metro.
Transportation
The area is accessible via bus and Metro (red, green, yellow lines). Rental cars are not indispensable (plus parking is not free, and rush hour is not fun).

Getting to DC
There are 3 airports that serve the DC area. From WMATA:
- Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is connected directly to Metro's Yellow and Blue Line.
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is connected directly to Metro’s Silver Line.
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is not connected directly. You can take a shuttle from the airport to the MARC rail station and take the MARC train to Union Station. From there, you can transfer to Metro's Red Line.
You can also get to DC by train. Metrorail's Union Station is served by Amtrak, Virginia Railway Express, and MARC.
Hotel
On your own. None of us are locals, and budgets vary. Here are some ideas:
- W&M provides a list of hotels close to the center: https://www.wm.edu/offices/dccenter/events/plan-events/event-planning-guide/areahotels/
- Warning: These may exceed the US GSA lodging rates of $258 per night before taxes. Please consult your institution's travel guidelines.
- Hotels that people have used for events near downtown, near Union Station:
- Hyatt Place https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/washington-dc/hyatt-place-washington-dc-us-capitol/waszd
- Marriot Courtyard https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/wasus-courtyard-washington-dc-us-capitol/overview/
- They are not as close, but still connected to the airport and other areas via public transportation
- Hotels that people have mentioned as they search:
- High Road hotel https://highroadhotel.com/ (small, not close to a Metro line, so it means riding a bus, $150-160/night plus taxes&fees private room, cheaper pods)
- Henley Park Hotel https://www.henleypark.com (decent reviews, not too far and not too expensive; Tudor style, afternoon tea)
- Cambria hotel https://www.choicehotels.com/district-of-columbia/washington/cambria-hotels/dc018
- Washington Plaza hotel (about a mile from the venue, and not too far from the metro, and is only $189/night on Expedia).
- Other recommendations:
- Stay out of the DC area. Look for hotels in Virginia, across the River. Here are two areas close to hotels:
- Look for hotels near the Metro lines. There are 3 metro stations close to the venue:
