Description
Charged Lepton Flavor Violation (CLFV) has been a matter of great interest since the 1940s. Many searches in many systems have been performed since then but progress has plateaued. Mu2e proposes to improve the sensitivity of the search for a muon converting to an electron in the field of a nucleus by a factor of 10,000. This is made possible by the powerful and flexible Fermilab accelerator complex and a novel detector apparatus. I will discuss the physics motivation, describe how the experiment works, discuss the physics sensitivity and backgrounds and report on the status of the Project.
