Description
The rare kaon decay Κ+→π+νν̄ is known as the Golden Kaon mode because it is extremely sensitive to many new physics models. This is due to the fact that its branching ratio, suppressed in the Standard Model to order 10-10, is remarkably clean theoretically and calculable to a precision of about 5%. ORKA is an experiment proposed for Fermilab primarily to improve measurement of this decay by an order of magnitude to reach an experimental uncertainty matching the theoretical precision. This would yield 5 sigma sensitivity to deviations from the SM as small as 35%. I will discuss the ORKA project motivation, design, and broad physics program of rare kaon decay measurements.
