Release and project report [Saba Sehrish]

  • release with Geant4 10.3 and GENIE 2.14 in preparation
  • Data Science @HEP workshop taking place in May, physicists are welcome to join

larbatch tools update [Herbert Greenlee]

  • a number of improvements have been introduced in time
    • python interface hiding remote file access behing a POSIX-like interface
    • result validation phase on worker node rather than in the final location
  • added ability to user xrootd to read ROOT files in "streaming" mode
    • useful when the files are not read in full
  • a UPS override is added to allow use of off-site SLF6 systems with newer kernel
  • it is possible to specify in project.py configuration any executable using the same command line interface as lar
  • lar.py is such an executable, able to process ROOT trees and configurable via FHiCL
  • some ROOT macros have provided, including a class RootAnalyze to analyse a ROOT tree with custom code
  • [Robert Kutschke] Ray Culbertson (mu2e) has a "system" to map the available offsite resources
    • [Alex Himmel] there are ways to do this with SCD tools (propoosed follow up off-meeting)
  • some of the scripts are candidate for inclusion in larbatch (from ubutil)
    • pending adoption of python FHiCL parser into FHiCL UPS product
  • as future, planned improvement,

Profiling LArTest with Open|Speedshop [Soon Yung Jun]

  • Open|Speedshop profiler is used by Geant4 team to profile Geant4
  • it may take up to a few hours to install
  • it provides different "experiments", that is sampling models and information extraction
  • [Giuseppe Cerati] are there features to test vectorisation performance? [A] yes
  • [Herbert Greenlee] is Open|Speedshop going to be illustrated in the workshop? [A] The specific tools to be illustrated haven't been decided yet
  • [Gianluca Petrillo] is OSX supported? [A] Yes
  • [Gianluca Petrillo] is this distributed via UPS? [A] we don't even know whether it's technically possible

C.I. system updates [Vito Di Benedetto]

  • an upgrade to the C.I. web interface will be deployed on April 26 (tomorrow)
  • [Herbert Greenlee] which is the monitored memory? [A] it's the resident memory (RSS)

Off-plane charge recovery in LArG4 [Gianluca Petrillo]

  • a new optional feature has been added to LArG4 to lead charge to the wire plane when its projection is outside of it
  • this is a geometric approach that does not try to be rigorous
  • improvements can be scheduled on demand

Any Other Business

  • [Alex Radovic] warnings from external packages are upgraded to errors
    • [Lynn Garren] we typically handle this via wrapping headers

Conclusions

  • Alex Radovic will contact LArSoft or art mailing list for a plan
