The quantum link approach to lattice field theory represents scalar, gauge and Dirac fields in terms of single bit/qbit fermion operators. This representation is universally equivalent to conventional lattice methods for asymptotically free 2D sigma models and 4D gauge theories. I will discuss the prospect for quantum links as a natural basis of quantum computing.

I will review the current status of quantum computing research, and assess the prospects (both near-term and long-term) for advancing fundamental physics through simulations of quantum field theory using quantum computers and quantum simulators.
