Description
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search collaboration measures ionization and phonon signals in ultracold crystals to search for interactions with Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, and has recently published an analysis of dark matter search data collected from eight silicon detectors. This search found three events that are inconsistent with known backgrounds and that could be interpreted as originating from interactions with WIMPs with a mass of 8.6 GeV. I will present a general overview of the CDMS approach to searching for dark matter signals and cover more details of the recent silicon result.
