DAQ Coordination Meeting

America/Chicago
    • 08:00 08:05
      General news 5m
Speakers: Alessandro Thea (STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), Asher Kaboth (RHUL), Roland Sipos (CERN)
    • 08:05 08:20
      Actions from previous meetings 15m
Speaker: Alessandro Thea (STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory)
      1. Josh/Artur: draft proposal for NP04 trigger bits
      2. Josh: prepare poll for alternative PP/DS slot
      3. Roland/Wes/Alessandro check vdcoldbox missed error rates.
    • 08:20 08:50
      Working groups round table 30m
Speakers: Adam Barcock (UKRI STFC), Alec Habig (Univ. of Minnesota Duluth), Alexander Tapper (Imperial College London), Artur Sztuc (University College London), Bonnie King (FNAL), David Cussans (University of Bristol), Jonathan Hays (Queen Mary University of London), Joshua Klein, Kurt Biery (Fermilab), Pierre Lasorak (Imperial College London), Roland Sipos (CERN), Stoyan Trilov, Wesley Ketchum (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory)

      Coldbox operations:

      • Trigger: Ran three TPG configurations with AbsRS, StandardRS, SimpleThreshold without hot channel masking. Will use this data to compare the three algorithms, and will run more TPG tests to optimise TPs for software triggering (threshold scans/parameter scans).
      • Timing: Extra timing fibre needed for new DAPHNE.

      Timing System:

      • Prepared draft documentation for FDR. Document list at EDMS 3071255
        • QA/QC plan for AFC complete
        • Introduction & Test results document ready.
        • Production plan ready.
        • Revision needed of document for interim electrical safety sign-off for AFC

      Trigger/Data Selection

      • Coldbox operations (see above)
      • New (simple) algorithms exist
      • Many updates for v4.4 have been made

      Readout:

      • U50 receiver that can generate statistics per stream by interrogating DUNE packet header has been verified in hardware. Comprehensive simulation CI pipeline is being constructed using Vunit framework and modelsim.
      • After observing synchronisation issues during soak test with loan switches and 10 GbE emulator, an investigation has been launched into the cause. This will allow us to keep control over the emulator ensuring a gracefully shutdown at the end of a test.
      • The 40 GbE emulator has been tested to greatest possible extent without the HiTech Global FMC+ 6xQSFP cards.

      Core Software

      • Performance activity sprint in next week. Callbacks forward ported to 5.0. Moving on to 2 NIC readout with 2 CRPs.
      • OKS work is advancing well, we need to ensure that developers moving on to aid the 5.0 work and forward port essentials from v4.4
      • Appfwk review will get a status update this week. We already got a notice from Eric, that the OKS work is hindering a bit the review process. (As there is a clear dependency to the review for configuration, we need to ensure that boundaries are clear and continue the review accordingly.)
      • TPG status update from last week from Adam. Hot of the press news: Adam is leaving CERN in basically one month. Work and knowledge transfer is happening right now. Person identified, will know more of final decision by the end of the week.
    • 08:50 09:20
      Activity coordination round table 30m

      Release coordination
      Iceberg
      ND test setups
      EHN1 integration
      SW coordination

Speakers: Bonnie King (FNAL), John Freeman, Kurt Biery (Fermilab), Patrick Dunne (Imperial College London), Wesley Ketchum (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory)

      John, Software Coordination:

Our frozen releases are prefixed with "fddaq-" or "nddaq-", depending on whether they're a far detector or near detector release. So far, so good. However, they also depend on a collection of packages which are common to both types of release (ers, etc.), and this collection is prefixed with "dunedaq-". "dunedaq-" isn't very descriptive, and worse, it looks like it might be the prefix of the name of a frozen release (in fact, until last summer, this was indeed the case). So, shall we replace it with:

      • basedaq
      • coredaq
      • commondaq
      • ...or something else?
    • 09:20 09:25
