Accommodations and Local Shuttle Services

Stanford Guest House

SLAC offers onsite accommodations at the Stanford Guest House.

Unfortunately, half the Guest House rooms are currently blocked out for a competing meeting.  While the competing block reservation expires March 16, we are told the conference is so large that the rooms are all likely to be taken. Nonetheless, you are advised to contact the Guest House and add yourself to the waiting list. LARP CM26, as a conference, is also "on the waiting list" for a block reservation. If & when the competing block expires you will be contacted and asked if you still want the room, assuming any are left. Contact the Stanford Guest House 24 hours a day Online or at (650) 926-2800.  Given this unfortunate situation, we recommend that you book a cancelable room elsewhere as soon as possible.

This comfortable and convenient housing structure is located on SLAC’s campus and is just a quick walk away to the workshop. Guests will have access to in-room, high-speed Internet access, a fitness center, a 24-hour reception desk, laundry facilities, free parking, complimentary tea and coffee, and a 24-hour gift shop.

The Stanford Guest House offers single as well as shared rooms, but all rooms have their own bathroom, and at very reasonable rates. All rooms are non-smoking only. Please book early using their online-reservation form.

A complimentary campus-wide shuttle service is available, see below.

The Maple Tree Inn (Sunnyvale)

A block of rooms (two King Size beds/room) have been reserved at the Maple Tree Inn in Sunnyvale (Check-in: On or after May 17; Check-out: On or before May 21). The discounted rate is $189/night for the nights of May 17, 18 and 19 and $109 for Friday May 20 (plus tax). Given the extreme cost of quality accommodations in the immediate vicinity of SLAC, we recommend that you book at this hotel, which is being used by several conferences at SLAC and Stanford University. The Maple Tree Inn, located in Sunnyvale, CA (approximately 25 minutes from SLAC) offers guests complimentary hot buffet breakfast, free wireless Internet, access to an outdoor swimming pool, weekday evening hospitality hour, and free parking.

The deadline for reserving a room within the LARPCM26 room block at the Maple Tree Inn is April 17, 2016. Any rooms not taken by the April 17th deadline will be released. Note that there is a 72 hour cancellation policy.

Please contact the hotel directly to reserve your room, referencing group code 897.

Off-Campus Hotels

A list of off-campus hotels provided by SLAC can be found here. The page incorporates a handy map.

More or less the same list of off-campus hotels. is available from the Stanford University Visitor's web site. This list includes price ranges and indicates whether or not a Stanford Discount is possible. You are advised to call the listed phone number to find if a Stanford discount is available for your selected dates and what the price will be. There is not one unique code to use when booking via the web.

For US government employees and contractors: Be aware of the FedRooms Online Reservation site: http://www.fedrooms.com/   After registering you can search for rooms at or below the Federal Maximum Room per diem ($175 in May 2016). On 2 Feb 2016 two hotels in south Palo Alto (Travelodge & Days Inn) showed availability at $175/night for May 17-21. There were also 31 other hotels listed slightly further away. As always, you can check if a Government Rate is available after locating any hotel via any booking engine.

Google maps, bookings.com, orbitz.com, expedia.com etc. show hotels with costs beginning below $100/night. The close-by, low end of the price spectrum is to be found in Redwood City; these establishments seem to have 2-3 star ratings. The search engines' customer comment sections or reviews on yelp.com may help you make a decision. Even these establishments are filling up. Please see this snap shot of 5-6 hotels who were called on February 16 for their price and availability. Clearly reserving early (& cancelling if something better can be arranged) is in everyone's interest.

If the security of booking with a large hotel chain is paramount, note that there are many such establishments around SFO airport. One example is listed in the snap shot. The drive to SLAC is about 30 minutes.

Note: The Stanford Marguerite Shuttle has limited routes and does not provide service to many of these hotels.

Marguerite Shuttle

The Marguerite is Stanford University's complimentary public shuttle system which traverses the campus Monday through Friday all year (except University holidays). The SLAC line operates between SLAC (with a stop at the entrance to the Guest House) and the Stanford campus, and is available from 7:30 a.m. to after 8:00 p.m.

The complimentary Stanford Guest House shuttle is also available evenings and weekends when the Marguerite is not.
