Description
This is the 2016 annual collaboration meeting for the Tianlai Project - a Dark Energy Radio Observation Experiment (http://tianlai.bao.ac.cn).  It will include a number of presentations on related efforts (related in terms of science or instrumentation) by scientists outside the collaboration.

BACKGROUND: In the past few years there have been significant advances in implementing 21cm intensity mapping to measure large scale structure in huge volumes of the universe: In Canada the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) is now moving from prototype to the full experiment; in China the Tianlai experiment’s prototype is now in operation; the Hydrogen Intensity and Real-time Analysis eXperiment (HIRAX) is beginning in South Africa. Analysis of Tianlai data has recently been funded by the US National Science Foundation.

21 cm cosmology -- the concept of using radio telescopes to observe the highly redshifted 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen on cosmological scales -- is a field on the verge of a breakthrough. The first generation of 21 cm cosmology experiments (LOFAR, MWA, and PAPER, among others) have been operating for several years, and first results at the level of design sensitivity are potentially forthcoming. In this talk, I will present early reionization science results from PAPER and the MWA, before describing the path to higher sensitivity and precise characterization of the 21 cm signal. I will also discuss efforts to better connect 21 cm experiments to other reionization observables in order to maximize our understanding of this epoch.
