Collaboration meeting dinner

We will hold a joint collaboration meeting dinner on the evening of Thursday, January 19, in the town of Gruyère. We will transport together by bus, and enjoy a traditional raclette dinner, complete with dessert and beverage. The fee for bus and dinner will be 50 CHF/USD/EUR per person, and should be paid at the moment of registration in cash. Receipt will be provided.
Please let us know via email (ubsbnd-at-bern-2017@listserv.fnal.gov) if you have any dietary restrictions, so we can properly arrange for those.

Ski day

We will organize a ski outing on Sunday, January 22, to the Grindelwald region in the Berner Oberland. The tentative schedule is as follows:

-- Depart UniBern at 08:30 by bus to Grindelwald.
-- Depart Grindelwald at 16:30 by bus back to UniBern, arriving by 18:00.
-- Continue on from UniBern at 18:00 to CERN, with expected arrival around 20:00.
Information on skiing can be found at www.jungfrau.ch, but expected ski pass fares are as follows:
-- Half day skiing (from 12:00 onwards): 48 CHF per person
-- Full day skiing: 63 CHF per person
-- Full day skiing for groups of 10+: 55 CHF
Ski passes can be bought in Grindelwald on arrival. We will not formally arrange for the group rate, but can informally do say at the day.

If you are traveling to Grindelwald but will not be skiing, there are many good winter hiking, snowshoeing, and sledding trails, as well as cozy restaurants and spectacular views (weather-permitting) from the village and nearby areas.

Ski passes can be bought in Grindelwald on arrival, and there are many places that offer equipment rentals. We will not formally arrange for the group rate, but can informally do say at the day. Roger Hänni (roger.haenni@lhep.unibe.ch) will assist in organizing the ski day and ensuring we all don’t die!

Luggage and personal effects can be left at the ExWi building (point of departure in the morning) during the ski day to help expedite departure to CERN in the evening. Items will be placed in securely in locked offices/rooms.

The meeting fee covers already the transportation, including if you will not be participating in skiing. Thus, you are welcome to enjoy the day in the Grindelwald region, or welcome to enjoy the day in Bern or elsewhere and catch the bus in the evening to CERN.

LHEP Tours

We will have tours of some of the facilities and projects at the Laboratory for High Energy Physics (LHEP) at Bern. Details on the tours will be forthcoming, but they will largely be during the day on Thursday, with groups of around 15 people per tour. Sign-up sheets will be available at registration on Tuesday and Thursday morning.
