Description
This meeting is being organized to facilitate discussion between the neutrino community and the newly formed “Short-Baseline Neutrino Focus Group” at Fermilab. The group has been asked by the Fermilab Directorate to consider new detectors and/or new types of neutrino source that would lead to a definitive resolution of the existing tensions with three-flavor mixing, and hence suggest an optimal future short baseline program for Fermilab. At the time of the meeting we anticipate that the Focus Group will be in the middle of its task. It will be after the group has gathered together some of the information it needs, but before options have been compared and conclusions formulated. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Focus Group to present to the community its early findings (What are the needs? What are the options to be considered?), and for the community to give input to the group.
The Focus Group is organized into 4 sub-groups to consider:
1. The present tensions with 3 flavor mixing.
2. Future options for a new generation of detectors and/or new neutrino sources.
3. The role of cross-sections and flux measurements and uncertainties.
4. The evolving relevant facility parameters.
In the meeting, each sub-group will present its early findings to the community. Most of the meeting time will then devoted to presentations from members of the neutrino community and discussion.
