Purpose of the Risk Management Workshop
The Proton Improvement Plan-II (PIP-II) will provide powerful, high-intensity proton beams to Fermilab’s experiments. The increased beam power will position Fermilab as the leading laboratory in the world for accelerator-based neutrino experiments. PIP-II will also provide a flexible platform for further enhancement of the Fermilab accelerator complex to extend this leadership to the full range of particle physics research based on intense beams in the decades to come. PIP-II received Mission Need Approval (CD-0) in November 2015 and is aiming for CD-1 approval in July 2018 and CD-2/3a in 2019, pending project funding levels.
In preparation for CD-2/3a, and recognizing that the PIP-II project is moving towards a Director’s Review in December 2018, the management team will conduct a focused risk management workshop on the project risks. The risk management workshop will focus on reviewing existing risks, identifying new risks, conducting assessments and supporting a basis for cost, schedule and scope risk management.
