Description
This event is by invitation only. If you would like to attend this event please contact Calvin Johnson at cjohnson@sdsu.edu or Kristina Launey at Kristina@phys.lsu.edu FRIB-Theory alliance workshop: "From bound states to the continuum: Connecting bound state calculations with scattering and reaction theory." Low-energy nuclear theory has been invigorated by the introduction and promulgation of novel, rigorous theoretical methods for many-body bound states, allowing for broadly successful ab initio calculations. We also need similarly rigorous calculations for low-energy scattering and reaction theory, particularly for interpreting the results of experiment at FRIB. This workshop is intended to enable more theorists working in bound state formalisms to connect to continuum degrees of freedom, and to help develop tools to calculate reaction observables directly measured in experiments. It will pull together experts in scattering and reaction theory, in bound state structure calculations, and especially those working on the boundary, to summarize the state of the art and to identify and lower the technical barriers to move from bound state calculations to the continuum. The outcome of this workshop will be a paper detailing current methods connecting scattering and reaction theory to calculations in bound state formalisms, largely intended as a practical introduction for working theorists. It should also serve as a useful introduction for students and postdocs. Organizers: Calvin Johnson (SDSU) Kristina Launey (LSU) Pierre Descouvermont (Universite Libre de Bruxelles) Dean Lee (MSU) Marek Płoszajczak (Ganil) Sofia Quaglioni (LLNL) Jimmy Rotureau (MSU) Key speakers: to be announced. Location and time: FRIB, East Lansing, MI, June 11-22, 2018. The workshop is organized by the FRIB Theory Alliance and we hope to be able to cover local expenses of a number of participants.
